Here to Help Your Child Thrive

Crystal Lake ABA Therapy Center

Summary: This article reviews what to expect from Caper ABA therapy, including getting to the facility from Crystal Lake, and using culturally sensitive services.

Located at 4055 W. Peterson Ave in Chicago, Caper ABA Therapy offers a comprehensive suite of services including one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, speech and occupational therapy, and specialized social skills groups. Located around 45 miles from Crystal lake, driving time can average 1 hour to our facility but we also make it possible to receive in-home care for children up to age 21.

Unlike traditional centers that may rely on rigid, repetitive drills, we differentiate ourselves through a Naturalistic Teaching philosophy. With this approach, our team prioritizes play-based learning and real-world interactions for each of the children under our care, ensuring that skills are developed in a way that feels organic and can be easily transferred from the clinic to home and school environments.

Services and Support from Caper ABA Therapy

At Caper ABA Therapy, we provide a multi-disciplinary approach to developmental support, with several forms of support available for residents of Crystal Lake and nearby areas such as Itasca.

Integrated Therapy

Our goal is to incorporate beneficial and overlapping therapies for each child. That is why we provide things like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA therapy in one treatment center. Having this overlap in individual treatment plans makes it possible for children to receive specialized collaboration on a daily basis respective to their milestones, goals, and needs.

Social Skills Groups

Similarly, our team provides structured sessions for social skill groups. As socialization is often a key component and goal of many plans for children with Autism, we offer structured sessions to practice peer interactions and cooperative play in a supportive but supervised setting. This helps us incorporate the skills taught in individual therapy within the confines of a natural social environment.

School-Based Support

Another aspect of the services and support we provide is school-based support. For this, school aged children can receive continued support meeting IEP goals. Our clinicians can work with the school to ensure that children receive consistency between the classroom and their therapy sessions.

Our Programs Near Crystal Lake

At our facility we provide in-center services in Chicago a little over an hour away from Crystal Lake. With numerous options for transportation, taking advantage of therapy in our center means access to a specialized sensory gym and structured play-based activities. These activities and the natural environment in which they are taught help to build foundational skills for young children.

For those who are older, or families for whom in-center therapy might be out of reach, we provide in-home and community-based services that extend to children up to the age of 21. These programs are intended for those who are older or who might benefit more from natural daily therapy in their home.

Our programs have slightly different goals depending on the age of each child in need.

Early Intervention Goals

For our younger children, between ages 2–7, our focus is on the building blocks of learning communication, living skills, play skills, and engagement. With our ABA therapy, children learn through a play-based, naturalistic approach.

Our team of qualified professionals can help children transition from non-verbal cues to using PECS systems, words, or signs to express their needs. All of this helps to reduce frustration for children. The children start to develop an ability to share focus with their caregivers by sharing things like toys or activities in our center or at home.

We work hard to promote foundational self care like getting dressed, going to the bathroom, and following other one step instructions. As children progress we also move from solitary play time to basic turn-taking or parallel play where appropriate.

Adolescent and Young Adult Goals

As our learners grow, shifting toward ages 8–21, their needs often change, with a need for more community integration especially involving socialization and school.

To that end, our team works hard to provide individualized services for every client, but with a focus on things like social reciprocity, executive function, emotional regulation, and independence.

For adolescent and young adults starting or continuing with ABA therapy, our goals will include mastering conversation whether it’s understanding nonverbal body language or being able to take the perspective of another person.

Our team might work with clients to improve their ability to plan their day, execute daily tasks, even complete multi-step chores or manage a school schedule. As part of that socialization and school experience, we work with children and young adults to identify personal triggers and help them establish personal coping mechanisms for things like sensory overload or stress in a public space.

Multilingual Goal Integration with Caper ABA

No matter the age, for those in need, Caper ABA Services provides Spanish, Urdu, or Arabic services. These linguistic services mean that developmental goals are integrated into the family’s primary language. As such, each child’s progress in “Functional Communication” is immediately applicable and reinforced within their specific cultural and home environment rather than forcing a child whose primary language is not English to learn their communication skills in English.

In addition to in-center versus in-home options, multilingual goals, and different goals for various age groups, our team can provide better support for parents and caregivers, access to things like our sensory gym, and an overlap of complementary therapies.
